Subject: "Bad" coffee is just the beginning . . .
Newlywed Mary is distraught when nit-picking husband Jim tells her, "Your coffee is as undrinkable as ever!" "He's always got some complaint about my coffee!" Mary tells motherly neighbor Mrs. Olsen. Instead of suggesting to Mary that Jim should make his own coffee and stop criticizing his wife, Mrs. Olson suggests Folgers Mountain Grown. That night, Jim says, "Honey, this coffee is the greatest! Have you been taking coffee making lessons?" Mary beams, but we know there's a problem in this marriage. It's just a matter of time before condescending, hyper-critical Jim finds something else about his wife to complain about. Before long, Mary may be knocking on Mrs. Olson's door and asking for the name of a divorce lawyer.

Subject: Don't Worry, We'll Think of a Title
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but is one of the previous reviewers suggesting it's not OK to criticise a female under any circumnstance?

Plus, contary to another review, this is obviously from the 60's, not 50's.

(curiously, reviews that don't review the item are allowed on this website).

Now for the commercial: Decent, unremarkable, dime-a-dozen commercial, the kind of commercial we've all seen before, and heck, I saw suspiciously similar ads to this back in the 1990's (which is odd, as this commercial is American and I live in a drought-striken part of the British Commonwealth).

Subject: Good Ol' Mrs Olsen
I think of all commercial characters, Mrs Olsen rates up there as being one of the most memorable if not somewhat frightening. I mean - it seems no matter where she was people started talking about coffee, and of course she always had some with her in her purse, shopping bag, kitchen cabinet, bathtub, glove compartment, dresser drawer, gym locker, ok, ok - I exaggerate - but to me the larger question is this: why didn't the women whose husbands complained like this just tell these guys to kiss their a**? Can you imagine a modern commercial where a husband would be allowed to get away with insulting his wife about something as trivial as coffee? Mrs. Olsen might hand the women a revolver instead of a can of Folger's. "Smith and Wesson?" "It's the richest kind."

Subject: Mrs Olsen has um, many female friends..
Shiny haired Mary goes over to see Mrs Olsen to complain about her husband Jim's complaints about her coffee. Mrs Olsen says it can all be resolved, and shoves a can of coffee into Mary's hands. Soon, Jim says that Mary's coffee is the greatest! "Have you been taking coffee making lessons?" Only in the 1950's could you go and take "coffee making lessons"
